This past weekend, I posted a want ad on craigslist for a basic machine I can run a Linux webserver on. Luckily, a guy from Orinda replied back within minutes of my post and offered me two decent machines to run Linux on for a very handsome price. My plan was to run Apache on Red Hat 9 from my home using my basic dsl service. Well, after a few days of installing, configuring and swapping video cards, manalang.com is finally up and running.

I’m not quite sure what I’d like to do with this website yet. I was more motivated with the whole idea of hosting my own website, learning Linux and all of the cool new (and old) technology that’s available. Looks to me that this project falls in the category of a PONARV (PO narv) n. [acronym] (coined by a guy that I work with… apparently). PONARV stands for project of no apparent redeeming value. That’s what this website is all about… most weblogs out on the internet probably fall in the category of PONARVs.

Well, be that as it may, I hope to make something out of this PONARV over the next few weeks. The first project is mapping out this website. That’ll have to wait until tomorrow.
