When the Elephants DanceJust found out from Lindsay, Cindy’s cousin, that she’s going to the Philippines for a Peace Corps assignment. She’s not sure where she’s going yet, but it sure does sound exciting. Although there’s been a lot of news about terrorist groups in the Philippines, from what my parents tell me (they go back every year) the terrorist action that the Abu Sayyaf Group has been involved in has been isolated to the southern islands.

Anyway, this book, When the Elephants Dance, is a book written by Tess Uriza Holthe who is a Filipino American writer… one of very few. I personally have not read this book yet, but my wife and her mother have and both have truly enjoyed reading it to learn more about the Filipino culture. The story is about life in the World War II Philippines when the Japanese invaded and took over the country. It’s the next book on my long list of books to read… I’m one of those people who like to buy books and read it a year later.
