In December 2003, Cindy (my wife) and I travelled to the Philippines. We have documented our experience through the photos you see here.

Manila Cathedral | Manila (56 of 194)

This church is apparently the only air-conditioned church in the Philippines. The theory is that Imelda Marcos frequented this church often since her office was directly next door -- because of this, she commissioned the installation of an air-conditioning system.

[From Lonely Planet:]

The Manila Cathedral was destroyed in WWII, but the present edifice, erected in 1951, looks suitable ancient with its weathered Romanesque facade and graceful cupola. This is actually the sixth church on the site. Inside are a gilded altar, a 4,500-pipe organ and rosette windows with beautiful stained glass.
